You as a producer or film maker hold a central role in determining a project's successful delivery. You are constantly making decisions on project that will impact every aspect of the running of the project. Unfortunately you cannot consult your entire CG and VFX team at every point you have to make a decision nor can you take them to every meeting with your client to negotiate deliverables.

You as a film maker will need to make quick fast decisions on set that will have huge ramifications further down the line in your post production process. The choices you make will determine both the quality of the final piece and its timely delivery.

When budgets are limited you need to know how the VFX and CG pipeline in your project works.

VFX and CG Survival Guide for Producers and Film makers is the first and (currently) only book that looks at the creation and implementation of complex Visual Effects, CGI and computer animation from the unique viewpoint of a producer and film maker.

This book

- goes beyond theory
- offers an in-depth analysis of the process involved using real life examples
- examines the unique considerations faced by a producer and film maker of every part of the VFX and CG pipeline
- is fully illustrated and contains a number of worked examples
- will show you how to manage the VFX process regardless of what budget you are working with
- covers the different considerations you need to know about across film, games, TV and live events.

No other book is currently offering this.

This book is built upon over twelve years of real experience in VFX and CG gained across film (Harry Potter 3, 4, and 5, Batman Begins, Poseidon, Kingdom of Heaven, Pirates!, Riddick), game (Operation Flashpoint 2, Brink), TV (numerous TV commercials and idents) and live events (including the London 2012 Olympics and product launches). The author has brought together case studies and worked examples which will help you understand, manage and deliver your project on time and on budget.

VFX and CG Survival Guide for Producers and Film makers VFX and CG Survival Guides Book 1 eBook Farhan Qureshi Reviews

In this well-written and clever book Qureshi uses his experience as an accomplished VFX artist to shine a light on one of the Visual Effects industry's weakest spots VFX management/production. His Survival Guide clarifies Producers, Directors and all other people involved in the production of computer generated images on a crucial item the pipeline seen from the perspective of the artist. This book gives them and aspiring artists a deep understanding of all the steps it takes to make a VFX scene "on the floor" and, most importantly, how they could and should intervene to make the process flow in a more effective way. This unique work covers an important gap in the industry and would definitely help most workplaces where I, as a professional CG artist, have passed through. A definite "must read".
My humble personal opinion on this book.
I work in the VFX industry.
If you have experience in the field, this book is completely useless.
As a note, being a book about VFX I at least would expect the cover and the images and graphs inside to be printed with decent quality, not pixelated or way too dark to see what's going on.
But let's not judge a book by its cover.

The book opens with a list of techniques commonly used in the VFX world. The list is quite complete, but it has a major problem in my opinion it is too technical for who doesn't know much about it, and way not technical enough for who is familiar with the subject.
I understand the attempt to please everybody, but I don't think it worked out. The author has to pick his audience and write accordingly.
There is no mention of how important for a VFX producer is to interact with the Director, the Director of Photography, the Production Designer, the UPM and the Producers.
There is little or no mention of what a VFX producer needs to do on set, when the plates the VFX team will have to work on are filmed.
These in my opinion are two major flaws in the structure of this book that make it useless.
You can feel it was written by a VFX artist and not really by a producer (confirmed by the IMDB credits of the author), with all due respect to VFX artists worldwide (I'm one of them).
The book is not written from the point of view of a producer.
It should be titled "General knowledge about VFX".
Then it would be a decent book.
But I don't think this is a survival guide at all.
Overall not worth reading.
Definitely not worth 16 bucks.
